Our story

From Basarabia to Brașov

Our story

Good food crosses borders and brings people together

Basarabia în Bucate began with a longing for the food we knew from home, long family meals and recipes passed naturally from grandparents to children. When we arrived in Brașov, we brought this part of Basarabia with us: its flavours, customs and the joy of welcoming people to the table.

We chose to share the dishes we know best, just as we watched our families prepare them year after year. Pies, borscht, stuffed cabbage rolls, pelmeni and Moldovan desserts arrived with their own stories and began gathering new ones in Brașov.

In the kitchen, everything has its time and purpose

In the kitchen, everything has its time and purpose

Some recipes call for patience. The dough rests as long as it needs, fillings are carefully prepared, borscht takes its time and flavour develops from simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients. This is still how we cook today. We keep what we learned at home close to us and give every dish the time it deserves.

For us, food has always been about people: Sunday meals, celebrations, visiting relatives and evenings when the whole family gathered around the same table. This is where the restaurant began, with the wish to carry a part of home forward.

Basarabian flavours have found a home in Brașov

Brașov welcomed us with people curious to discover new flavours, as well as those who recognised the cooking of their childhood in our menu.

Over the years, locals, tourists, families from the Republic of Moldova and people tasting a Basarabian pie or a borscht made from a recipe familiar to us from home for the first time have sat at these tables.

Two worlds meet here: the one we come from and the city where we have continued our story. Perhaps the loveliest thing that can happen to an old recipe is to find love at a new table.
